We recommend that the first thing you do is call us for an estimate. Our estimate will give you a good idea of the costs and options, and also the timing involved in moving your household effects from your present home to the new location. Please take advantage of our decades of experience by checking out our moving schedule and moving checklist.
How Do I Get an Estimate?
Jay’s helpful Moving Consultant will help with all aspects of planning your move. You should decide which items you need moved, then talk to us about provision of any packing, storage, unpacking and cleaning / maid services you want included in your package. Each move has its own unique aspects. We can tailor a moving solution that will meet your specific needs.
What Is Included in my Estimate?
Your estimate will include the obvious things such as the weight of your shipment, further appliance servicing, crating of big items, storage while in transit, packing and unpacking. Also included will be less obvious things like shuttle service, logistical difficulties like elevators and stairs and additional coverage for your possessions. Jay’s wants to ensure that you understand the full cost and options so that we (you and us) don’t encounter any surprises during your move. Charges are based on the different activities that are a part of the move, including:
Supply of Packing Materials:
provision of corrugated cardboard boxes, tissue, TV cartons, matress bags, packing paper, shipping tape, specialized shipping containers, etc.
Appliance Servicing: preparation of appliances for shipment, including disconnecting wiring, detaching water supplies and drains and packing to avoid harm to moving parts and exterior finishes. When we move you into your new home, we would then need to do the same work (in reverse!).
Packing / Unpacking: placing your belongings with appropriate protection like paper sheets into cartons and boxes. We record on the boxes information about the room that the contents came from, and refer to that information when unpacking in your new home.We can, if pre-arranged with you, place your household effects on shelves and in cupboards, but this is not usually part of the unpacking process.
carrying your packed and prepared for transport property into a local delivery vehicle or a moving van.Unless your property is going into storage, it will probably be loaded directly into the vehicle which will transport it to your destination.
Cleaning: follow-up services to clean your old residence after all your belongings have been removed. This service doesn’t include removal of items you choose not to relocate, especially any toxic or dangerous materials. You will need to deal with these before we do our thing!
Unloading / Loading from Storage: if you require us to trans-ship your goods for storage or multi-modal transport (like an overseas move).
Storage: providing a secure storage space for your possessions.
actual transport of your property in a moving van to your new home.
Unloading: carrying your possessions from the vehicle into your new home. As we are moving you in, we will put your furniture in the designated rooms, reassemble beds and other furniture and, if included in your package, reconnect appliances.
Unpacking: removal of your possessions from the packing materials in the room that corresponds to the room in which they were originally packed, or the room into which you labeled them for arrival. We only unpack your possessions if we packed them, and placement on shelves or in cupboards isn’t included unless prior arrangements were made.
Cargo Protection: The industry standard coverage we automatically include with all moving services. You may choose to purchase additional coverage, which is available through Jay’s for your family’s possessions.
